Case 003 · Growing Years
Mia Chen
When the backpack still looked so big.
The first day of school was only the beginning. What mattered later was what she looked like at six.
The memory
The first day of school was only the beginning. The story image held the glance back, the oversized backpack, and the scale of a child outside the school doors.
It wasn't really about school. It was about who she was at that age.Later, the school mattered less than the child in front of it: the face that had not fully grown yet, the changing teeth, and who she was at six.
It wasn't really about school.
The oversized backpack, new sneakers, six-year-old face, and quick glance back were ordinary details that belonged only to those years.

What mattered
What mattered
It wasn’t simply her first day of school.
It was how small she still looked beside that enormous backpack.
The photographs that shaped it
A portrait helped preserve what Mia looked like at six. The first-day scene kept her posture, scale, and place in that morning.
From memory to artwork
The final Growing Years portrait keeps the whole scene while giving the small details enough space to be noticed again.
Made physical
The same Growing Years artwork is shown in two photographed display formats: Clear Acrylic Display and Wood Base Display.
